Trade Advisory for Indian Suppliers/Exporters

Indian companies are advised to take due precaution while engaging in business transactions with Northern Ireland/UK counterparts, particularly when dealing with new or unfamiliar companies. A recommended list of check-points is placed below. It is not an exhaustive list of measures or options.

  • Run a credentials check on the Northern Ireland/UK company, including through Companies House (a free, public register of all UK-registered companies at find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk), or by contacting the Consulate/High Commission who may respond with basic information.
  1. Before signing a contract or purchase order, verify the company's registration and current status on the Companies House register.
  2. Deal only with officially authorised persons of the company, confirming their identity where appropriate.
  3. Have a written agreement covering the terms and conditions of the business transaction.
  4. Consider site visits for large transactions and retain records/photographs where appropriate.
